GARBAGE MAPPING
This project explores identity through cultural diversity and waste, drawing insights from discarded items found on the streets of Chicago. Overlooked trash can sometimes reflect the cultural characteristics of neighborhoods. The work mainly focuses on four areas: Downtown and River North (primarily white community), Chinatown (renowned for its Asian community), Bronzeville (recognized for its African American community), and Pilsen (predominantly Latino community). By analyzing the garbage in each area, the project links urban remnants to cultural identities, investigates how consumption reflects cultural identity, and raises urgent questions about sustainability.
