CHANT
This installation about heritage was made to honor my grandma, a devoted Buddhist. At her house, she had a room that functioned as both a Buddhist hall and a space for her dowry—a sewing machine—where she spent most of her leisure time chanting and sewing.
Featuring the large-scale embroidered Heart Sutra with the pronunciation of some words I did for her as a child, a video of me chanting the Heart Sutra, and a photo wall showcasing her daily life combined with scanned scriptures, along with the original sewing machine and scriptures, this piece connects spirituality and women’s labor while reclaiming undervalued domestic practices.
